D B R DILSUK NAGAR - 2006THE MIDDLE PATH – is a mural that talks about the Goutham Buddha’s realization of avoiding both the extreme’s of self indulgence and self mortification/ severe austerities. He explains to adopt a path which is moderate to cultivate spirituality and practice meditation (mind culture). He practically understands that moderate food and sleep are most congenial to grow spiritually and practices diligently for the next six years analyzing the self and human problem and goes on to self realize and ultimately gets enlightened under a bodhi tree. His analysis of the cause and effect cycle which he inquires linking backwards as a chain of events from sorrow and death to the cause of birth is a very serious and intelligent effort. His SETTING OF THE WHEEL INTO MOTION- is to preach his disciples about his realizations (the Four noble truths and the eight fold path) which were logically simplified and were expressed in an easy native language.

The above concepts were depicted in the mural –the middle path. His enlightenment is represented with the four faces that were gradually changing from dark browns to golden yellows suggesting the transition of the self from the dusky materialistic nature to the divine nature, and the circles around the Buddha represent the concept of- the setting of the wheel into motion and the eight glass spokes represent the ASTANGA- MAARGHA or the eight-fold path which he preached.
